Our Story

Animation and Illustration Studio, UK

The creative inspiration behind Cumi came from a chance meeting with a frog late one rainy night, and the idea that grew out of it has stayed with us ever since. Cumi itself began in 2008, and has grown into a UK studio built around illustration and animation, where we reach for a visual or a character before we reach for a paragraph, because a story you can watch and believe in travels further than one that is only written down.

A project might arrive as a single idea from someone working alone, or as a brief from a broadcaster with a deadline attached. Either way we stay involved right through, at whatever budget it calls for, and try to make the whole thing as clear and as hassle free as it can be for the people we are making it with.

Day to day that means character and title animation built up frame by frame, original illustration taken from a first sketch through to finished art, characters designed to hold their own across a whole series rather than a single scene, ideas worked through in storyboard and concept form long before anything is drawn in full, and motion graphics that bring live footage and animation together into one piece.

We love to use visuals and characters to tell stories and communicate ideas.
